I graduated and got my PhD in Saint-Petersburg university working on diversity and evolution of centrohelids – an orphan ancient eukaryotic group which contains a considerable genetic, morphological and functional diversity, which I am fascinated with. Working in Fabien’s group in Uppsala in 2017-2019 I reisolated and restudied a centrohelid called Meringosphaera, which was revealed to be involved with a complex and yet not fully understood photosymbiotic relationship. I am also interested in other orphan lineages of protists and microbial eukaryotic diversity in general. Some of my work was dedicated to studying fungi and amoebozoa and recently (2023-2024) I spent some time working in the laboratory of Patrick Keeling in Vancouver, dealing with telonemids, rotosphaerids, cryptists, alveolates and other groups of eukaryotes, isolating newly established cultures and obtaining single-cell transcriptomes. Starting from February 2025 I joined Fabien’s laboratory again, as a researcher and my plan is to proceed with bringing the little-known or unknown into a culture and thinking about their diversity and evolution.

In my free time I enjoy nature-watching (especially insects and other tiny beings) and intellectual games.
